JUROR INFORMATION
The Cecil County Circuit Court is the first of fifteen jurisdictions to replace an old jury selection system with a new web-based jury management system that will offer many advantages to the citizens of Maryland, increasing the efficiency of the courts. This system offers jurors the ability to access their juror information, request to be excused or deferred, leave a message for the jury office, determine their reporting status, and update juror profile information twenty-four hours a day. It has also allowed Cecil County to reduce the length of time a juror will serve.
There are four, 3-month jury terms in Cecil County which begin in January, April, July and October. Regular Trial Jurors, also known as Petit Jurors, will now serve only a one-week session during the jury term in which they have been selected compared to the eight-week term they were previously required to serve. Grand Jurors serve approximately 2 days per month during each jury term which has been reduced by one-month. The Circuit Court of Cecil County holds trials Monday thru Thursday and tries not to set jury trials on Fridays if possible.
Jurors are paid the sum of $20.00 per day for attendance. All jurors will be reimbursed by check, for all days attended, at the end of the jury term. Checks are processed once a month and will be mailed to the home address of the juror.
For the jurors convenience, a Call-In System has been made available. The juror summons provides the information needed to access the call-in system (badge number and zipcode are used for access). The toll-free number for the call-in system is 1-866-925-8760. It is advised that the juror call-in the evening prior to trial to confirm they are needed for service. The message will advise jurors as to whether or not they are needed for jury duty and give them additional instructions. Please make certain that you listen to the entire message carefully.
Although dress may be casual, please dress conservatively. Shorts and cutoff jeans, hats (except for religious purposes), tank and halter tops, and undershirts are considered inappropriate. Cell phones and pagers are not allowed in the Courthouse.
Certification of jury service needed for your employer are available upon request. These letters may be obtained at the Jury Commissioner’s Office. An employer may not deprive an employee of his employment solely because of job-time lost as a result of Court attendance in response to a jury summons, under the provision of the Annotated Code of Maryland, Courts and Judicial Proceedings, Sec. 8-105.
Jury Service is an important aspect of the rights, privileges and duties we all enjoy as citizens. YOUR willingness to serve and participate in this essential part of our judicial system is greatly appreciated.
