Juror Information

Kent County's jury plan, recently approved by the Court of Appeals, allows for one selection process annually.  During that process, an appropriate number of jurors are selected to serve a one-year term.  The Petit Jurors are divided into four panels, each panel serving a three-month term during which they will receive 5-8 summons to appear.  The Grand Jurors serve the one-year term and are obligated to appear whenever summoned by the Court (usually 2 - 4 times during the year).

During the period of your service, you will be paid the sum of $15.00 per day for attendance plus 17 cents/ mile roundtrip from your home.

For your convenience, a Call-In System is available.  In each summons you receive, you will be advised to call (410) 778-2512 the evening prior to trial.  The message will advise you whether the trial will proceed as scheduled or if it has been canceled.  Please make certain that you listen to the entire message.

Although dress may be casual, please dress conservatively.  Shorts and cutoff jeans, hats (except for religious purposes), tank and halter tops, undershirts, and sandals are considered inappropriate.  Cell phones and pagers are prohibited.

Certifications of jury service needed for your employer are available upon request. These letters may be obtained at the Clerk's Office. An employer may not deprive an employee of his employment solely because of job-time lost as a result of Court attendance in response to a jury summons, under the provision of the Annotated Code of Maryland, Courts and Judicial Proceedings, Sec. 8-105.

ADVANCE NOTIFICATION OF VACATIONS, MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS, ETC. ARE TO BE MADE IN WRITING AND SENT TO:

Please state in your correspondence if you require confirmation of receipt and acceptance of dates requested.

THE NUMBER TO CALL TO SEE IF A TRIAL WILL PROCEED AS SCHEDULED IS: 410-778-2512
