Committee Members
The Judicial Ethics Committee consists of nine members appointed
by the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals. Of the nine members:
1) one is a judge of the Court of Special Appeals; 2) two are
circuit court judges; 3) two are judges of the District Court;
4) one is a judge of an orphans’ court; 5) one is a clerk
of a circuit court; 6) one is a judicial appointee as defined
in Rule 16-814; and 7) one is not a judge or other officer or
employee of the Judicial Branch of the State government or a
lawyer.
The term of a member is three years and begins on July 1. The terms are
staggered so that the terms of three members expire each year. At the end
of a term, a member continues to serve until a successor is appointed, with
the successor serving only for the unexpired term. A member may not serve
more than two consecutive three-year terms.
