Partners in Justice: Employer Recognition Program of the Maryland Judiciary Jury service is one of the most important civic obligations for citizens. To be available to serve on a jury is both a privilege and an obligation for all Marylanders. By law, citizens called for jury service, must report and, if selected, serve. Many employers of all sizes recognize the importance of jury duty to the community and currently have juror-friendly employment policies that compensate their employees so that they do not suffer a financial hardship during jury service. We want to encourage all Maryland employers to develop similar policies. To recognize the vital contribution to our justice system by businesses that have juror-friendly policies, the Maryland Judiciary has established an Honor Roll of Maryland employers called Partners in Justice. An employer who satisfies the Judiciary that employer has policies that fully compensate employees who are called for jury service are eligible to be placed on the Honor Roll. Each such employer will be presented with a certificate that recognizes their ongoing service to the community. The Honor Roll will be a permanent part of the Maryland Judiciary web site, and recognized employers also will be listed in public service announcements and advertisements for the program. The program is aimed at employers of all sizes. In order to be placed
on the Honor Roll, larger-sized employers will be expected to have policies
that fully compensate employees for more lengthy trials, while employers
who employ under 500 workers will be eligible for the Honor Roll if their
respective policy compensates employees for service on jury trials lasting
up to four days. How can my company apply to be a Partner in Justice? Please complete the Application and submit it online or mail it to the address below. You will be notified within two weeks if you are eligible for the Honor Roll. If you are eligible, a certificate of recognition will be mailed to the appropriate business representative. Does it cost anything to become a Partner
in Justice? Will placement on the list affect our
ability to change our policy? |
