Frequently Asked Questions

My password no longer works, I think it expired. What do I do?
Call the Law Library at 410-260-1430 or email lawlibrary@mdcourts.gov to have your account reinstated. Passwords for most law clerks are set to expire after a year. If your appoinment is extended, just let the Library know.

I am having difficulty pasting information from Lexis into Word 2007 or Word Perfect. Any suggestions?
Take a look at Copy With Cite Solutions. It describes how to modify your browser to enable Copy with Cite.

Are the MICPEL's on Lexis the current editions?
In most cases the answer is yes; however, there are some instances where the version on Lexis is not the most recent version.

How do I access CourtLink?
Judiciary employees have immediate needs for court docket searching on Courtlink, they should contact their local Circuit Court Library or the Maryland State Law Library for assistance. Because the subscription terms for Courtlink are different from those applicable to the rest of the Lexis system, access to Courtlink generally requires that Judiciary users have demonstrable needs for docket searching in Federal or other states' courts. For additional details about this database or to request access, please contact State Law Library staff at 410-260-1430 or lawlibrary@mdcourts.gov.

Can I get a Lexis user ID?
Maybe. Employees whose duties include legal research are issued user ID's. If your job requires legal research ask your supervisor to email lawlibrary@mdcourts.gov to request a user ID.

I forgot my Lexis password. How to I get a new one?
Go to lexis.com and click on the Forgotten Password link. Passwords are set by Lexis.

Shepard's BriefCheck and FastPrint says, that I must confirm that extra charges may occur with these tools. Will I incur additional fees by using BriefCheck or FastPrint?
No,. The Judiciary does not incur any additional charges when using BriefCheck or FastPrint. Any messages about extra charges using Lexis will not apply. Extra charges may apply with CourtLink.

I am having problems with printing. What should I do?
We highly recommend that to print a document you first download it and then open in Word, WordPerfect, Acrobat, etc. and then print from that program.

How can I easily search case law for references to Restatements?

In Lexis use the MD State Cases, Combined database with the search of "restatement of torts". The search box below will actually conduct this search.

Known usability issues:

  • FastPrint may crash in Firefox
  • Internet Explorer displays the document with no File/Print option. Select the CONTROL key and P the document will print to your attached printer.
