Nina Meierding, MS, JD, is nationally recognized as a leader in the conflict resolution field.  She has assisted in the resolution of thousands of disputes and has conducted training both nationally and internationally to court systems, corporations, medical and governmental agencies, and various business entities in the areas of conflict resolution, cross cultural issues, and negotiation skills.  Meierding is an instructor at several universities and law schools and has earned several distinguished mediator awards.

Alma Abdul-Hadi Jadallah, Ph.D., is President and Managing Director of Kommon Denominator in Fairfax, Virginia, and an advisory board member for the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University. As a national and international conflict resolution practitioner, Dr. Jadallah led civil society initiatives related to the Arab world and the Islamic community.  Her company provides services in the areas of organizational and leadership development, conflict prevention and mitigation, training and education, public participation, capacity building, and monitoring and evaluation.

Topic: Challenges and opportunities for third parties in the protracted Arab-Israeli conflict:  Are North American conflict resolution models adaptable?

Peter S. Adler, Ph.D., is President of The Keystone Center in Colorado. The Keystone Center applies consensus-building strategies and state-of-the-art scientific and technical information to energy, natural resource, and health-related policy problems. Adler specializes in multi-party negotiation and problem solving and is the author of several books.

Kenneth Cloke, J.D., Ph.D., is director of the Center for Dispute Resolution in Santa Monica, California.  He is a nationally recognized speaker and author of many books and journal articles.  A highly skilled practitioner, Ken specializes in resolving complex such multi-party conflicts as community conflicts; grievance and workplace disputes; collective bargaining negotiations; and public policy disputes.

Howard Gadlin, Ph.D., is Ombudsman and Director of the Center for Cooperative Resolution at the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C.

Marc Gopin, Ph.D., is the James H. Laue Professor of World Religions, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution at the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (ICAR) at George Mason University.  Gopin focuses on relationships between world religions and the impact on violence and peacemaking strategies.

Linda Baron has been a mediator for more than twenty years, volunteering with many court and community-based programs.  She’s currently a member of FEMA’s ADR cadre and deploys to disaster field offices to provide conflict resolution services to FEMA personnel.

            This teleconference will feature discussion about the role of intuition in mediation and understanding the nuances of its appropriateness.  How can we discern the appropriate uses of intuition from inappropriate stereotyping and unsupported assumptions?
