Peter S. Adler, Ph.D, is president of The Keystone Center, which applies consensus-building strategies to science-intensive energy, environment, and public health problems. Adler’s specialty is multi-party problem solving. He has extensive experience with water, land use, and business negotiations and mediates, writes, trains, and teaches in diverse areas of conflict resolution. Prior to his appointment at Keystone, Adler held executive positions with the Hawaii Justice Foundation, the Hawaii Supreme Court, and the Neighborhood Justice Center. Linda Baron has been a mediator for more than 20 years, volunteering with many court and community-based programs.  She is currently a member of FEMA’s ADR cadre and deploys to disaster field offices to provide conflict resolution services to FEMA personnel.  Linda also has many years of experience working with associations in the ADR field, including NCPCR, NAFCM, the ABA Section on Dispute Resolution, and ACR.  Most recently she served as interim operations manager for the Conflict Resolution Center of Montgomery County.  In an earlier life, she was an urban planner and worked with local communities on housing, community development, and economic development issues.

Doug Brookman is a nationally recognized mediator, facilitator, and trainer, who has conducted collaborative planning and problem-solving processes full-time for 20 years.  His company, Public Solutions, facilitates effective decision making among divergent interests in complex public contexts.

Kenneth Cloke, J.D., Ph.D., is the director of the Center for Dispute Resolution, a private, multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural association of professionals with broad experience in conflict resolution. As director, he has served as a mediator, arbitrator, attorney, coach, consultant, and trainer. Ken specializes in resolving complex multi-party conflicts, which include community conflicts, grievance and workplace disputes, collective bargaining negotiations, organizational and school conflicts, sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuits, and public policy disputes. Howard Gadlin, Ph.D., is the ombudsman and director of the Center for Cooperative Resolution at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  Prior to NIH, he was the ombudsperson at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).  An experienced mediator, trainer, and consultant, Dr. Gadlin has worked extensively with conflicts related to race, ethnicity, and gender, including sexual harassment.  Currently he is developing new approaches to addressing conflicts among scientists.  Dr. Gadlin is the author of several works, including Bargaining in the Shadow of Management:  Integrated Conflict Management Systems; Conflict, Cultural Differences, and the Culture of Racism; and Mediating Sexual Harassment.

Alma abdul-Hadi Jadallah, Ph.D., is founder, president, and managing director of the award-winning female firm Kommon Denominator, Inc.  In that capacity, she has advised, designed, and delivered highly successful small and large-scale interventions in corporate, community, and international settings on strategic projects related to conflict prevention and mitigation, training and education, international women’s leadership development, and capacity building.  As an educator, she teaches graduate level courses on conflict resolution practice and theory and protracted conflicts in leading academic institutions in the US and around the world.    She has worked on numerous cases as a third-party intervener on reconciliation efforts related to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Nina Meierding, M.S., J.D., is a national leader in the field of conflict resolution and has been providing training and mediation services throughout the United States and abroad for more than 25 years.  She has consulted and trained many groups, including court systems, corporations, medical centers, government agencies, small and large business entities, and individuals in the areas of conflict resolution, cross cultural and gender issues, and negotiation skills.  She is an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University School of Law, Southern Methodist University,
and Lipscomb University.  She is also serving as the mediation consultant and trainer for the Wisconsin Special Education Mediation System (WSEMS).  Formerly, Nina was a family law attorney and director and senior mediator at the Mediation Center for Family Law in Ventura, California, where she handled over 4,000 disputes.

David J. Smith, M.S., J.D., is the United States Institute of Peace’s national educational outreach officer.  In that role, he coordinates Institute-wide educational outreach and public programming efforts.  He speaks frequently to community, faculty, and student groups on a variety of issues, including civil society and peace-building, child soldiers, conflict resolution education, and international education. Before joining the Institute in 2005, his work focused on teaching at the college and university level.  Smith has also worked in the fields of domestic and community conflict resolution and as a practicing attorney.  He has been a lecturer at Uppsala University in Sweden and the University of Jammu in India.
