Free Webinar for Mediators and Others: Using Formal Proposals to Resolve Conflicts

(ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Oct. 24, 2011) In the world of commercial and employment mediation, many mediators use “mediator’s proposals,” which are formal proposals to all the parties in a dispute to help the parties reach a resolution of their differences. In a free lunchtime webinar, mediators can learn more about this tool and explore the controversy surrounding its use.

The webinar “Mediator’s Proposals – Useful Mediation Tool or Oxymoron?” will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, noon-1 p.m.

Presenters Linda Singer and Michael Lewis will talk about the use of mediator’s proposals, comparing the possibilities and the dangers of the practice, and will examine the fact that some practitioners question whether mediator’s proposals should be considered an ethical mediation tool at all.

Singer and Lewis have been pioneers in using mediation to resolve conflicts in a broad range of settings. They currently teach the mediation seminar at Harvard University, and mediate commercial, employment, and public policy disputes through JAMS, The Resolution Experts, the world’s largest private alternative dispute resolution provider.

This free lunchtime webinar is designed for people who work with mediation or alternative dispute resolution, and also for people who want to learn more about peacemaking. Members of the public are invited to join the conversation.

The webinar is free, but registration is required and space is limited. For more information about how to join the webinar, go to MACRO’s website,
