(ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND, May 8, 2017) – Anne Arundel County District Court will mark National Drug Court Month by holding its 20th Adult Drug and DUI Treatment Court graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 11.  Approximately 10 program participants will celebrate their graduation with family members and friends during the ceremony.  News media are invited to attend.

The rigorous drug and DUI (alcohol) treatment court program combines judicial oversight with intensive treatment and supervision.  Anne Arundel County District Judge Thomas J. Pryal will preside over the graduation ceremony.  WBAL-TV Sports Anchor and Reporter Keith Mills will serve as the keynote speaker.

Anne Arundel County’s drug treatment court began in 1997, and the program for DUI infractions was added in 2005.  More than 1,000 people have successfully completed the Anne Arundel County District Court program since it began, with 75 percent remaining arrest-free.  Maryland’s first problem-solving court began in Baltimore in 1994, and the program has expanded to include 54 programs throughout the state.
