Appellate Court Judicial Records Requests

The Rules governing access to judicial records may be found in Maryland Rules 16-901 et seq. (“Access to Judicial Records”).

There are several ways to review a case record from the Appellate Court of Maryland:

  1. Party Access.  If you are a party to a case, you may view your case record on a public kiosk located in an MDEC courthouse or you may register to view documents online.   For more information, please visit: https://www.courts.state.md.us/mdec/efilingpublic
  2. Attorney Access.  If you are an attorney and your appearance has been entered in a case, you may view the case record on your attorney portal in addition to viewing the case record on a public kiosk.
  3. Non-Party Public Portal Access.  If you are not a party to a case and you are not an attorney who has entered an appearance in a case, you may view the case record on a public kiosk located in an MDEC courthouse.  Please note that some case records are sealed and not accessible by persons other than parties and their attorneys.
  4. Request Copies from Clerk’s Office.  All persons may contact the Clerk’s Office at (410) 260-1450 to request copies of documents for a fee.  Payment must be made by check or money order before receiving the copies.  Please note that some case records are sealed and not accessible by persons other than parties and their attorneys.

Under the current Rules, many records and documents are frequently available immediately upon request, and payment as applicable, including those listed here.  Please note that there are occasions, including but not limited to when there are technical problems, when requests are made for multiple or bulk records, or when files are in active use or archived storage, that specific documents may not be immediately available.
