Jury Service is an important aspect of the rights, privileges and freedoms we all enjoy in the nation; and YOUR service is greatly appreciated by the Court.
If you have received a Summons for jury service, please check to see if you have been selected for PETIT (Trial) or GRAND jury service and complete Parts A and B - on the bottom portion of the form. This portion of the form MUST be completed and returned together with any relevant documentation within ten (10) days of your receipt of the Summons. You may return the bottom portion of your Summons via regular mail, by fax to 301-600-2245 or in person to the Jury Office.
Petit (Trial) Jurors
Petit (Trial) jurors are “on call” for a term of one (1) WEEK or one (1) TRIAL. You may be required to report and/or serve on any given day within your assigned week. To determine your reporting status, you are instructed to call the recorded message at 301-600-1979 the evening prior to your date of service to listen if your GROUP NUMBER is required to report and also the reporting time. (For example: The message put on Friday evening will provide instructions as to required jury groups for Monday). Continue to call each evening after 4:30 p.m. during your scheduled week to receive instructions for the following day. You are to report for Petit (Trial) jury service only if and when your GROUP NUMBER is requested to report during your scheduled week. It is important that you listen to the entire message.
Grand Jurors
Frederick County Grand Jurors will serve a jury term of six (6) months beginning in either the first week in February or September. The Grand Jury usually meets every other Friday during their term. Orientation for the Grand Jury will be held on the date listed on your Grand Juror Summons. This is a MANDATORY date for you to appear provided you have not been considered disqualified or exempt from Grand Jury service. Please arrive in the Jury Assembly Room at 8:15 a.m. Please bring the top portion of your Summons with you. You will receive a list of possible dates the Grand Jury could meet and further instructions during that orientation.

RECENT JURY DUTY SCAM ALERT:
In this phone scam, the caller claims to work for the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and tells the person they “did not report for jury duty” and must pay a fine. The caller may know quite a few details about the person and ask to verify a birthdate. The caller is asking for an electronic payment, through an app or a prepaid debit card. The caller may reference the Clerk of Court and direct you to the Circuit Court once you have made the payment. This phone call is a scam. If you get a call like this, HANG UP. Maryland Courts, Sheriff’s Offices and Jury Offices do not call citizens to get payment over the phone for a fine for missing jury duty. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office does not take payments through a kiosk for missing jury duty. If you have any questions about jury duty, please call the Frederick County Jury Office at 301-600-1979.
