Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Judge issued an administrative order adopting Juneteenth as Judiciary holiday

ANNAPOLIS, MD - Today, Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera issued an administrative order recognizing June 19, also known as Juneteenth, as an official Maryland Judiciary holiday. This follows national legislation expected to be signed into law today and the decree and order issued by the Governor of Maryland. June 19, Juneteenth National Independence Day, commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. This year, as June 19 falls on a Saturday, the Judiciary will observe the holiday on Friday, June 18. All courts and Judiciary offices, with the exception of commissioners’ offices, will be closed.
