CHIEF JUDGE BELL NAMES ANN S. HARRINGTON TO OVERSEE
MONTGOMERY CIRCUIT COURT
ANNAPOLIS (April 9, 2003) – Chief Judge Robert M. Bell has named Judge Ann S. Harrington as the next administrative judge for the Montgomery County Circuit Court.  She will replace Judge Paul H. Weinstein, who retires on April 18, 2003.

“It is never easy to single out one judge for new responsibilities, especially when the bench is as able as it is in Montgomery County,” said Bell, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, Maryland’s highest court.  “But I am confident that Judge Harrington will be a leader and innovator in the tradition of Judge Weinstein.  She brings years of valuable experience as well as the respect of her colleagues and the bar to this assignment.”

Judge Harrington has been an associate judge of the circuit court since September 1992 .  Before being named to the circuit court, she was an associate judge on the District Court in Montgomery County from 1989 to 1992, and an assistant state’s attorney from 1975 until she was named to the bench.

In 1999, she received the Maryland State Bar Association’s Anselm Sodaro Civility Award, given each year to a judge who has demonstrated exceptional judicial temperament, civility and courtesy.

Judge Harrington received her B.A. from the University of Maryland and her J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law.  She has been a member of the Maryland bar since 1974
