ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 30, 2004) – Although budget constraints prohibited the annual meeting of the Maryland Judicial Conference, there will be a one-day educational conference for judges of the District Court of Maryland. The conference will be held on October 1 at the Robert F. Sweeney Courthouse in Annapolis from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. According to District Court of Maryland Chief Judge James N. Vaughan, it is important for judges to meet on a regular basis. “This is an opportunity for judges to discuss new developments in the law and management of cases,” Judge Vaughan said. The topics for this year’s program include new case law update, domestic violence and peace order cases, bankruptcy, and treatment of defendants with drug or alcohol dependency. Conference attendees include District Court judges from across the state as well as retired judges who are subject to recall. Media representatives are invited to attend, and cameras will be permitted upon request. To obtain a copy of the proposed agenda, or arrange to attend, please contact the Court Information Office at (410) 260-1488. # # # # # |
