(Annapolis, MD — June 6, 2005) Steven Paul Anderson has been appointed the new Director for the State Law Library. When Anderson begins in his new position June 13, he will succeed Michael S. Miller, who will retire June 30 after serving as the library’s director for 28 years.

Anderson comes to the State Law Library from his position as the administrator of the library for the Baltimore law firm, Gordon, Feinblatt, Rothman, Hoffberger & Hollander. He worked previously as a public services librarian at the Baltimore County Circuit Court Library in Towson.

Anderson holds a Master of Arts in Library Science from the University of Arizona, a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law, and a B.A. in Political Science and Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

“The Maryland Judiciary will certainly benefit from Mr. Anderson’s wealth of experience, with his background in law libraries, teaching, and knowledge management,” said Court of Appeals Chief Judge Robert M. Bell, who serves as chair of the Maryland State Law Library Committee, the library's governing board.

Most recently Anderson has been elected to serve as a member of the American Association of Law Libraries Executive Board, where his term of office begins in July. He has been actively involved in both local and national law library organizations and has written and spoken extensively on utilizing technologies to enhance legal research and the organization and management of legal knowledge.

Located in the Robert C. Murphy Courts of Appeal Building in Annapolis, the State Law Library was established by the state legislature in 1826. Now part of the state’s judicial branch, the library supports the research activities of the state’s two appellate courts and court-related units of the Judiciary. In addition, a wide variety of information services are extended to the executive and legislative branches and the public.
