Judge Richard E. Jackson Named Administrative Judge

(ANNAPOLIS, MD — April 28, 2006) Circuit Court Judge Richard Eli Jackson has been named administrative judge of the Circuit Court for Cecil County. Chief Judge Robert M. Bell of the Maryland Court of Appeals designated Judge Jackson as administrative judge effective April 30, 2006.

As the county administrative judge, Judge Jackson is responsible for the administration of the court for the county. He is responsible for supervision of all judges, officers, and employees of the court; the expeditious disposition of cases; control of the trial calendar; and oversight of the court’s budget and procurement functions.

Judge Jackson was appointed an associate judge in September 2002, and elected in 2004. His designation as administrative judge became effective when Judge Dexter M. Thompson, Jr., resigned his role as administrative judge. Judge Thompson, who remains an associate judge on the court, had served in that capacity since March 2002.

Before his appointment to the bench, Judge Jackson worked as a private practitioner from 1978 to 2002. A 1964 graduate of Perryville High School and a 1968 graduate of Washington College, Judge Jackson earned his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law, with honors.

A lifelong resident of Cecil County, Judge Jackson said, of his appointment, “I look forward to continuing to serve my community in this new way.”
