
Rule 11 of the Maryland Rules Governing Admission to the Bar provides that before admission to the Bar, an applicant shall complete a program on legal professionalism.
All forms and any documents that accompany the form(s) must be returned to Sher-Rhonda L. Cabean, Executive Director of the Professionalism Course. Please send the form(s) and accompanying documentation to: Sher-Rhonda L. REQUEST FOR DEFERRAL
A Request for Deferral may only be filed with the Court of Appeals in accordance with Rule 11 of the Rules Governing Admission to the Bar and only by using the form on the Professionalism Commission’s website at http://mdcourts.gov/professionalism/professionalismcourse.html. The form must be filed with the Court of Appeals no later than Thursday, April 12, 2012. Filing for a deferral does not automatically excuse you from attending the Course. In the absence of written notification from a Judge on the Court of Appeals of a deferral, you will be expected to attend and complete the course on your appointed date.

Attorneys admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Virginia, and Colorado jurisdictions, who have taken a professionalism course for the newly admitted, within the last five years (this does not include courses taken in law school or the MPRE) may apply for a Waiver of the course by completing the form on the Professionalism Commission’s website at http://mdcourts.gov/professionalism/professionalismcourse.html. Filing for a waiver does not automatically excuse you from the course. In the absence of written notification from a Judge on the Court of Appeals of a waiver, you will be expected to attend and complete the course on the date indicated. Requests for Waivers must be filed with the Court of Appeals no later than Thursday, April 12, 2012.
