"This
is a wonderful step taken by the Bench and the Bar, one which promotes,
and hopefully will move us closer to, access to justice for all."
Chief Judge Robert M. Bell
Welcome to the Pro Bono section!
With the passage of the pro bono rules, the Court is committed
to providing you with the most accurate and up-to-date information
about the rules, the implementation process, and how to become involved
in pro bono activities. This new section features a variety of materials,
including a list of Frequently Asked Questions, articles and press
releases on pro bono issues, and links to other organizations and
resources that can help you. Whether you are a lawyer licensed in
Maryland looking for information about the new rules, upcoming trainings,
or opportunities for pro bono service, or a non-lawyer in search of
pro bono assistance with a legal matter, you’ll find a wealth of ideas
and information here.
For
those involved in their Local Pro Bono Committees, we will soon
have sample plans and reports from other states to assist you through
the needs assessment, planning, and reporting processes. We will
also bring you news about the statewide Standing Committee on Pro
Bono Service, profiles of people involved in pro bono, and spotlights
on special events and innovative initiatives related to the advancement
of pro bono service.
Our goal is to provide useful
and instructive information to you. We welcome your questions, comments
and suggestions and ask that you direct them to the Pro Bono Resource
Center of Maryland (PBRC), the statewide pro bono support center.
PBRC is assisting us in implementing the new pro bono rules and
can be reached at 410-837-9379 or 1-800-492-1964 ext. 258. You can
