Editor’s Note:
A limited amount of courtroom seating will be reserved for the media for the post-conviction proceedings. To request a reserved seat, media representatives must contact the Maryland Judiciary’s Office of Communications and Public Affairs via email at [email protected]. Emails requesting reserved seating must include the first and last names of the media representative, the name of the media outlet, work and mobile telephone numbers, and an email address.
Media seats in the courtroom will be reserved on a first-come, first-served, one media representative per media outlet basis until the reserved space is filled. The Office of Communications and Public Affairs will allocate seats in the order that requests are received and will communicate to the Sheriff’s Office the names of those media representatives who are assigned reserved seats. Media representatives must arrive by 8 a.m. in order to be seated. The names of additional or alternative media representatives may be submitted, but they will be assigned a seat only if reserved capacity allows or if there is sufficient public seating.
Media representatives who are unable to obtain a seat in the courtroom due to capacity limits will be offered a seat in an overflow room as space for the media and the public permits. A live closed-circuit audio/video feed from the courtroom will be provided in the overflow room. The use of electronic devices, including cell phones, cameras, and audio or video recording or transmitting equipment, is prohibited inside both the courtroom and the overflow room.
Members of the media will be provided a designated media room where electronic devices can be used. Photography and videography are prohibited inside the courthouse, including the media room. All media interviews must be conducted outside of the courthouse.
Wi-Fi Internet access is not available in the courthouse. Media representatives may bring their own Wi-Fi connection devices.
Parking will be prohibited around the courthouse. Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced. Media representatives must not block pedestrian walkways and sidewalks and cannot restrict any public areas for media use.
All media representatives should read the Security/Media Protocol Order to learn about the processes and procedures in effect during the proceedings, as well as the Maryland Judiciary’s policy on Cell Phones, Other Electronic Devices, and Cameras in Court Facilities. No audio or video recording or transmitting equipment, including cameras, shall be permitted inside of the courthouse, except as permitted in the Security/Media Protocol Order.
