Maryland Judiciary reminds the public to stay vigilant of possible scams

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Maryland Judiciary is reminding the public to be vigilant with regard to telephone scams that use threats of arrest for failure to appear in court or posing as judicial employees in order to extort money from potential victims. 

The Maryland Judiciary is aware of a recent incident involving numerous participants in the LifeLock Identity Theft Protection program. LifeLock is sending out notifications via email or text with the message "New property detected." This issue stems from LifeLock's system, which they are aware of and actively working to resolve. To report this issue, please contact LifeLock customer service at 1-800-543-3562.

Please note, the Maryland Judiciary does not call or email people to obtain payments or personal information. Courts do not request credit card or E-pay payments by email or telephone. As a general reminder, do not provide any personal information, credit card, or bank information to a caller or in response to an e-mail claiming to be from a court. If you have received a call or email about a court case or a warrant for arrest, contact the District Court or circuit court in your jurisdiction.
