Judiciary Honors Young Artists for Promoting Peace

Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera met talented young artists December 13 during a reception at the Maryland Judicial College Education and Conference Center in Annapolis for the 11th Conflict Resolution Day Student Bookmark Art Contest, sponsored by the Judiciary’s Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO).  The event recognized students from kindergarten through eighth grade who best used their artistic ability to emphasize the importance of peaceful conflict resolution.

During the reception, Chief Judge Barbera presented awards to 15 contest winners and students whose entries earned honorable mentions.  Chief Judge Barbera also fielded questions about her career from students and their family members following the event.  In addition to recognizing the award-winning entries, MACRO displayed many of the more than 2,100 bookmarks sent in by students from throughout the state.
