Welcome

Dorchester County Circuit Court Courthouse

In the State of Maryland, the judicial branch of government consists of four levels of courts.  There are two trial courts, the District Court and the Circuit Court; and two appellate courts, the Appellate Court of Maryland and the Supreme Court of Maryland. The Circuit Court found in each Maryland county is a court of general jurisdiction.  The Court hears serious criminal and the more complex civil cases, juvenile and family law matters and all jury trials.  Additionally, the Circuit Court hears appeals from the District Court of Maryland, the Orphans’ Court and administrative agencies.  If a party in a District Court civil or criminal case requests a jury trial, those cases are heard by the Circuit Court under certain circumstances.

Whether you are a party in a legal matter, a juror or a citizen curious about how the courts operate, you are welcome in our courthouse.

Hon. William H. Jones
County Administrative Judge
