Juror Information

The Allegany County Clerk’s office does not manage the jury program.

For information regarding jury service please contact the Jury Commissioner at 301-268-3227, 30 Washington Street, Cumberland MD 21502.

For additional information, see below for information from the Jury Commissioner.

Allegany County's jury plan allows for a monthly one-step selection process. During the process, an appropriate number of jurors are selected to serve a four week term (a five week term twice a year). Jurors will serve approximately 4-5 times during their term. The Grand Jurors serve a six-month term and are obligated to appear whenever summoned by the Court at the request of the State's Attorney, usually once a month.

Received a Summons?

If you have received a summons for jury service, please check to see if you have been selected for TRIAL or GRAND jury service, and complete Part B - Juror Qualification Form on the back portion of the form. This portion of the form MUST be completed and returned together with any relevant documentation within ten (10) days of receipt. You may complete the Qualification Form online. In addition to completing the form online, you can update your juror profile or request that your service be deferred (one time only).

Reporting For Jury Service

You can go online or use an automated call-in system to learn whether you are required to report for jury service. You will need to refer to your reporting number from the "Juror Badge" portion of your summons to determine whether you are required to report. Visit the Jury Announcement website or call 301-777-5927 each evening after 3:00 p.m.

Juror Compensation

During the period of your service, you will be paid the sum of $30.00 per day for attendance, plus mileage if you live outside the city limits of Cumberland. If you choose not to receive payment for jury service, you may consider participating in the “Generous Jurors” program.

Verification of Service

Certifications of jury service will be given to you when you report for jury service. An employer may not deprive an employee of his employment solely because of job-time lost as a result of Court attendance in response to a jury summons, under the provision of the Annotated Code of Maryland, Courts and Judicial Proceedings, Sec. 8-105.
