Effective June 1, 2021, any person who is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will no longer be required to wear a mask or follow social distancing protocols within the courthouse. Any individuals who have not been fully vaccinated are still required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. A screening process will continue for entry to the courthouse. Individuals will be asked if they have received the COVID-19 vaccine and, if they respond in the negative, they will be required to wear a mask to gain entry to the courthouse. Individuals may be denied entry if they do not meet the health screening guidelines or if they refuse to participate in the screening process.

Appointments will be taken from 9 am until 4 pm each day for civil ceremonies. Please call 301-777-5923 to schedule your ceremony. Due to the limited size of the civil ceremony room, we ask that only the parties to be married attend. The room is not large enough to safely social distance.

Rich in the tradition and history of Maryland, the Office of Clerk of the Circuit Court is one of the oldest public institutions in the state.

Dawne D. Lindsey, Clerk of the Circuit Court

Welcome to the Allegany County Courthouse and the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court. The Clerk of the Court is a locally elected State official with the responsibilities established and regulated by the laws of Maryland and the Rules of the Court of Appeals of Maryland. Since 1658, the office of Clerk of Court has provided the citizens of Maryland with a variety of essential services. The revenue collected by the clerks for these services is distributed to city, county, and state governments.

Each year the Clerk’s office files, processes and maintains civil, criminal and juvenile actions. The Clerk's office records land deeds, mortgages, plats, conveyances and other precious documents. The Clerk administers oaths to County officials, Judges and Governor appointees, issues business and marriage licenses and performs civil marriage ceremonies. The Clerk also commissions Notaries Public. As you can see, the Office of Clerk of the Circuit Court is a busy place. I'm very proud of the work we do, and hope the above facts acquaint you with the many services provided by the Clerk here in Allegany County.
