ENTER NOW: 2018 Conflict Resolution Day Student Bookmark Art Contest
You can help promote peacemaking through art by entering into the 2018 Conflict Resolution Day Student Bookmark Art Contest. The competition takes place each year in observance of Conflict Resolution Day on Thursday, October 18. The contest, which is in its 13th year, is sponsored by the Maryland Judiciary’s Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO) and is open to all Maryland students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
The best 1,000 entries will be displayed at the Judicial College Education and Conference Center (JCECC) in Annapolis. Students with winning entries and their families will be invited to an awards ceremony and reception with Mary Ellen Barbera, Chief Judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals. The awards ceremony and reception are both scheduled for December 11 at the JCECC.
Grade Levels and Judging Criteria: Artwork will be judged in three categories: Grades K-2; Grades 3-5; and Grades 6-8. Each submission will be judged on its creativity and message.
Prizes: The following prizes will be awarded for each grade category:
1st Place: Winner will receive $75.00
2nd Place: Winner will receive $50.00
3rd Place: Winner will receive $25.00
Six or more winning bookmarks will be printed to promote conflict resolution across Maryland. Winners will receive copies of their own printed entry.
To Enter: Use the template (see the link below) to submit your entry. You can also submit your own artwork without the template, but the finished image size must be no larger than 3 inches high by 9 inches wide. You must include the following information on the label provided on the template:
- Student’s name
- Age and grade
- School or program name if appropriate
- Teacher’s/parent’s name
- Email address
- Address where we should return the entry after the contest is complete
If you are not using the template, please include the information on the back of your entry.
Students who are homeschooled are welcome to participate.

Theme: Subject matter must reflect a theme of resolving or preventing conflict, such as peer mediation, apologizing, respecting differences, solving problems together, listening, tolerance, peace building, or alternatives to violence.
