Traffic Citations
Traffic matters are mainly handled in the District Courts. It your traffic case was elevated to the Circuit Court, please see the below for information on the Installment Payment Agreement for traffic fines.
- A Circuit Court may authorize a Circuit Court clerk to approve an installment plan agreement pursuant to Courts and Judicial Proceedings § 7-504.1
Applicable Fines
- Only traffic fines are eligible for installment plan agreements.
- Eligible fines must total at least $300 to qualify for an installment plan agreement.
- Court costs are not fines and do not count towards the $300 minimum threshold.
- Only fines imposed in a particular Circuit Court count towards the $300 threshold for an installment payment plan in that Circuit Court.
- Payments under an installment payment plan apply to fines imposed in the specific Circuit Court issuing the payment plan only—fines owed in a different Circuit Court, or in the District Court, must have a separate installment payment plan in that relevant court to avoid an MVA suspension for unpaid fines.
